Extended Hands

Extended Hands of North Carolina, Inc. supports families, youth, veterans, and people involved with the justice system with critical services.

Some of what they provide is immediate: food distribution and clothing assistance. The rest is built to last longer — life skills training, financial literacy, job readiness, and employment support. They describe themselves as a resource and referral agency, which in practice means someone who arrives needing one thing often leaves knowing where to find three others.

That combination matters more than it might sound. Services are usually organized by category, and a person who does not fit neatly into one category gets sent from desk to desk until they give up. An organization that exists to know where the next door is shortens that walk considerably.
